Westlands Country Park

Westlands Country Park is part of our Wanderwood Lodge Holidays Collection, providing the perfect country retreat in the Borders of Scotland. With lodges nestled in the woodland, some with waterside views, Westlands Country Park is the perfect spot for exploring Dumfries & Galloway and is close to the market town of Annan.

The park has an enviable reputation for its clay pigeon shooting and is a world standard venue. Using only competition level equipment the shoot is a favourite for established professionals and new shooters alike. Add to this the tranquillity of the newly opened and well stocked fly-fishing lakes and you create the quintessential Scottish countryside break. For those who prefer to do less not more then simply pull on your walking boots and take a stroll around this beautiful countryside location and if that sounds too strenuous then do even less in your hot tub and simply let the others take the strain.

We booked a Stargazer pod for a family celebration over the New Year Period. Unfortunately, due to an overloading on site the electricity was off for approximately 4 hours and we were unable to use the hot tub for 24 hours. Communication was not great and when we were told we could use the hot tub in 1 hour, it remained off for a further 4 or 5 hours and this information was only conveyed to us by the hot tub attendants going around the campsite, whom we sought out. There were several breakages within the pod and we notified the management immediately. We had booked the pod for 7 days and noone came to carry out repairs or replace the items. We highlighted this on our departure but management did not appear to be too bothered. The water was also off for a short period of time, possibly due to the cold weather but once again, no communication until we contacted management.Normally, the restaurant food is good but on this visit, it can only be described as mediocre. The restaurant was also closed more often than not and there was a very limited amount of staff. We did have a great night at the Hogmanay celebrations within the restaurant and certain staff could not do enough to make our night enjoyable. Although, all the grievances listed did not deter from an enjoyable stay, we do feel that a reduction or offer of compensation could have been made.

Lovely first trip here. Staff were helpful when approached. Peacocks free roaming were a huge hit with our son.
