Angus is the perfect destination for a walking holiday, with an abundance of spectacular scenery and natural beauty to explore. For some of the best walking in Scotland, head to the Angus Glens, a collection of glens that stretch into the Cairngorms National Park and offer a diverse landscape of hills, valleys, woodlands and Munros (mountains in Scotland over 3,000 feet). Follow the meandering River South Esk in Glen Clova, renowned for its stunning scenery, or hike the Munros of Mayar and Driesh in Glen Doll. The Angus Glens offer incredible opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife spotting, such as roaming red deer, soaring golden eagles, river-dwelling otters, and the elusive Scottish wildcat. Our log cabins and lodges in Angus provide a wonderful base for exploring this enchanting part of the UK, with facilities like a private hot tub or cosy open fire adding an extra touch of luxury to your stay.
Angus is a county steeped in history, from medieval abbeys and grand castles to heritage railways and historic harbours. Depending on how long you have here, there are two sites that should come top of your list. The first is Glamis Castle. Shrouded in myth and legend, this majestic castle is one of Scotland's finest with a history that can be traced back to the 14th century. It has strong ties to the British royal family as, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, spent her childhood at Glamis, and it was the birthplace of Princess Margaret, the sister of Queen Elizabeth II. The second must-visit site in Angus is Arbroath Abbey, a significant religious site and symbol of Scotland's struggle for independence. Founded in 1178 by King William the Lion, the historic abbey features a mix of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles, and has endured periods of conflict and warfare, notably during the Wars of Independence. You can visit the abbey as part of the Arbroath Abbey Heritage Trail, a 90-minute trail that begins at Arbroath Harbour and takes you to the town's notable historic sites.
Whether you're interested in rejuvenating coastal walks, lazy beach days, tasty fresh seafood, or all of the above, Angus is an idyllic destination for a Scottish seaside break. Visit Lunan Bay, with its expansive sandy beach, cliff-backed dunes and medieval Red Castle ruins. Discover Montrose, with its elegant Georgian townhouses, wildlife-rich nature reserve, wide promenade and historic golf course. Take in breathtaking views from the Seaton Cliffs, south of Abroath; stroll along the pretty beachfront of Broughty Ferry, a charming suburb of Dundee; discover the sea caves at Auchmithie, with their historic smuggling connections; or play a round of golf at the iconic Carnoustie Golf Links, one of the world's oldest and most challenging courses. With our choice of hot tub holidays, incredible lodges and family-friendly holiday parks in Angus, it's easy to plan your dream adventure on the Scottish coast.
