Lovely holiday. Stayed in a 3 bedroom lodge located next to kids play park, this was ideal with 3 kids as could watch them from varanda. Lodge itself was large with plenty of storage space especially in kitchen which is rare. Had a few minor problems while there but a quick phonecall to reception and these were sorted within half an hour. Lodge was clean and tidy. Grounds were lovely and kept immaculately clean. Restaurant/bar was ok average which you get on most sites. Wood fired pizza was nice although I thought could have done with an extra 30 seconds of cooking. Staff all friendly and helpful. Is not far from Rheghed services and a short 10 minute drive into Penrith. Do watch out for wasps if sitting outside the bar/play park my husband was stung multiple times this was end July.

Where do I start.... The pictures online are stunning but on arrival no joke every single piece of furniture was damaged or seriously tired/worn.I was incredibly disappointed with the quality and care of the lodge that we stayed in (family escape plus now called Blencathra Family) Door handles hanging off some of the doors, living room furniture badly damaged, main dining table could have pushed over with my finger. To top it of my nephew cut his toe on the hot tub as the little bits of wood was missing on the out side of the tub where tiny nails where sticking out. Every single ceiling light dusty and rusty hadn't been cleaned in years.Asked for a mop and bucket as we was sticking to the floor and to our horror 4 attempts to clean the floor the water was black each time. After a few complaints to main reception which was rather annoying and tired some I was given a complementary late check out ... in my opinion this was extremely poor not to my satisfaction.Because of this we left a day early.Very expensive lodge as it wasn't cheap and that was all that was offered as an apology. As we all do at the end of the holiday we tidy and clean up and strip the beds. To our horror heavily soil stained mattress I felt sick on what we had been sleeping on.I would ask for a refund but we know that will never happen.
