Queenshill Lodges

out of 5

Mary Queen of Scots is said to have stopped to rest here while fleeing defeat at the battle of Langside and just a few miles away at Dundrennan, is where she took her last steps on Scottish soil before sailing to England. This is how Queenshill got its name.

Queenshill Lodges offer perfectly positioned, well equipped lodges built on the site of an old mansion house. The lodges sit adjacent to the beautiful walled garden which is open for guests to explore.

There are miles of paths for walking and just over the hill at Barstobrick there is a horse riding centre and The Galloway Faerie Trail. A map for the walks is provided in the accommodation. Guests can arrange for a breakfast hamper to be delivered to their lodge in the mornings (additional charge).

Our lodges are comfortable, cosy and are well equipped with everything you need to make your stay as stress free as possible. Queenshill Lodges is a peaceful and tranquil location and the minimal site lighting ensures you are able spend the evenings admiring the regions dark skies – a truly unique experience!

Castle Douglas, known as the food town and Kirkcudbright, known as the artists town, are both under 10 minutes away by car. Also nearby are several safe sandy beaches, art galleries, Scottish Natural Heritage sites including Threave Gardens, excellent golf courses, 7-stanes mountain biking routes and a large selection of eateries serving first class, locally produced food.

Excellent lodge with a hot tub for two in a beautiful part of the world. Very private setting. Lovely and warm and comfortable. Plenty of room. You just need the basics like toilet roll, kitchen roll, washing stuff for dishes and clothes ( good washing machine).Lots of local adventures to be had: The circular Trail is great ( see info in lodge), Red Kite feeding and Threave House/ Castle and nature reserve all 10-15 mins drive away. Lots more to see but we were too busy relaxing! We will definitely be coming back.Thank you x
