The park is located in Bassenthwaite, Keswick, which is a small Lakeland village that has been voted the most peaceful place in the UK for staycations. The park boasts breath-taking views of Skiddaw, Sale Fell and Binsey that are all within a few miles. We are exceptionally lucky to be discretely nestled on the north shores of the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake, the ’only lake in the Lake District.’ The Lake is perfect for water sport enthusiasts to go paddle boarding or kayaking, while those fishing fanatics won’t be disappointed. Cold water swimming has also become very popular too. If those sports are not your thing, don’t worry the views will simply mesmerise you.

Herdwick Willy’s Bar & Bistro is our new addition to the park, with its modern rustic interior making it a great place to eat and drink. The south facing patio with a view of Sale Fell is perfect for summer evenings. Armathwaite Hall & Spa next door is a spectacular hotel offering an impressive spa, dining options and a perfect place for hosting weddings. The Lakes Distillery, of which has produced the award-winning single malt whiskey, is just a few minutes walk away. They have a very insightful whiskey tour, a bistro, and a shop for you to buy their whiskey, gin and vodka. The lakes wildlife park is set behind us which makes us lucky enough to often hear the monkeys exercising their vocal cords. A perfect day out for children and animal lovers.

Due to our great location, we are within 10 minutes of the beautiful market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth that offer lots of independent shops, cafés and restaurants. If you prefer not to drive the local bus stops at the park gates and will take you to both towns. If you have spare time after visiting the immediate attractions, then 8 miles away we have Crummock Water that is fed by Scale Force, the highest waterfall in the Lake District. 12 miles and you will reach Ennerdale the most westerly of the lakes and the most remote. Buttermere Valley is only 14 miles away and will offer exhilarating and challenging walks. For those thrill seekers, Whinlatter Forest Park is just 5 miles with a range of activities including, Go Ape, Mountain bike trails, horse riding and many more.

When we entered the lodge everything seemed okay, but sadly the cleanliness let the lodge down alot. The sofas were very stained and need a good clean, the carpets were full of spillage stains. The oven was very dirty and also needed a deep clean, the fridge had a funny smell. The WiFi was not always working, so we couldn't use our Netflix. The hot tub doesn't stay hot and there was no way to control the temperature, so we couldn't stay in it for long. We had a problem with the boiler on the Saturday, so we tried to call the warden at 8am and the phone kept going to answer phone. I finally got through to someone at the bar at 10:20am. The location is good and your not overlooked. But sadly we won't be returning.

We had a lovely stay but there are a couple of easy things which would have made it so much better.Kitchen could be better supplied, only 4 mugs, 3 pint glasses and 3 large wine glasses. Nothing suitable for a glass of juice at breakfast. There was a coffee maker but no pods and no cafetiere. Just one dishwasher tablet and no washing up liquid.Full cocktail making kit though!!There was a lovely big deck at the front of the caravan with views of the lake but no outside furniture so no where to sit. Also no soap in the bathrooms. Surely just a few pounds spent would make a big difference! Location is great and the site was super quiet.

On arrival the check in was great someone was there in the clubhouse and he went through the rules and took the security deposit of £150 on a card, instructions were clear to find the lodge. Can't fault the condition of the lodge and it was very clean and was fully equipped with what you would need. The only negative regarding the lodge was the lighting outside especially when using the hot tub in the evening it was very poor. We didn't seem to have any outside seating on the decking but can only assume it was locked away as it was February and would hope to think it would be there in the summer months. This negative didn't spoil our break. Before arriving I read some reviews regarding the unhelpfulness of the staff, this wasn't the case at check in but then later on we went and asked about any local walks near the site and the response was that he didn't know, surely as a member of staff would have an idea to help customers out.Again this didn't spoil our break and would defiantly return, just be a little bit more helpful in the future 😉
