Conwy is a gem. Revel in the medieval atmosphere of this hugely characterful town which nestles on the rugged North Wales coast, facing Deganwy across the River Conwy. Conwy Castle was built by the English monarch Edward I between 1283 and 1289 as one of the key fortresses in his 'iron ring' of castles to contain the Welsh. Conwy is a classic walled town. Its circuit of walls, which are over three quarters of a mile long and guarded by no less than 22 towers, is indisputably one of the finest in the world. The Castle is a World Heritage Site and is well worth a visit, not least for the breathtaking views across the mountains and the Irish Sea, as well as affording the best view of the magnificent town stone walls.

Visit the stunning, National Trust run, Conwy Suspension Bridge, designed by Thomas Telford in 1826, the tubular Conwy Railway Bridge built by Robert Stephenson in 1849, or the fine medieval houses of Aberconwy House and Plas Mawr, under the care of the National Trust and Cadw respectively.

If all of the grand architecture gets a little overwhelming, take a visit to something on an altogether smaller scale with a visit to the quayside house named in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest house in Great Britain, at just 3.05 metres by 1.8 metres in size!
