Arguably the best beach in Llyn Peninsula, Porthor, or “Whistling Sands in English”, gets its name from the unique sound the sand makes when walked upon. It’s part of the Wales Coast Path so makes a great start or end point for coastal walks, backed by striking cliffs and dunes. The clear waters and golden sands attract holidaymakers in search of relaxation, as well as families in search of safe swimming areas and prime sandcastle-building spots.
A friendly surfing community, various rental shops and surf schools, plus great conditions make the Llyn Peninsula a hotspot for surfers. Porth Neigwl, or “Hell’s Mouth” in English, attracts thousands of surfers every year thanks to its consistent waves and reliable swells from the Atlantic. Stretching over four miles, there’s plenty of space for walkers, sunbathers and swimmers as well, with the picturesque cliff-backed setting offering panoramic views of Cardigan Bay.
Vibrant Abersoch is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Llyn Peninsula, with its trendy shops and restaurants, lively atmosphere and event-filled calendar. Thanks to its sheltered bay and consistent winds, Abersoch’s main beach is a prime spot for watersports, with sailing, water-skiing, windsurfing and paddleboarding just some of the activities on offer. Safe swimming areas and handy facilities like a shop and a café make this a great beach for families. Stay a short drive away at one of our lakeside lodges with hot tubs on the Llyn Peninsula or coastal Llyn Peninsula holiday lodges.
