The bustling seaside village of New Quay has several beaches to choose from. The main and most popular beach is New Quay Harbour Beach, a golden sandy beach backed by steep limestone cliffs. This sheltered spot means it has calm waters that are perfect for swimming and paddling. The beach’s proximity to the harbour makes it easy to enjoy boat trips and excursions, as well as convenient quayside amenities like restaurants and cafes. New Quay is also one of the best places to see Cardigan Bay dolphins; the bay is renowned for having the largest population in Europe. For smaller and quieter beaches, try the secluded Traeth Dolau Beach, the sheltered Cei Bach Beach or the tranquil Llanina Beach.
Known for its crystal-clear waters and cliff-framed golden sands, Llangrannog Beach is a firm favourite for families, walkers and watersports enthusiasts alike. Try your hand at surfing, kayaking or bodyboarding; join the Ceredigion Coast Path for a scenic stroll; or pop into the village of Llangrannog for an ice cream or a spot of lunch. If you fancy a quieter beach break, follow the scenic coastal path from Llangrannog to the secluded cove of Cilborth Beach, a hidden gem away from the busier areas.
The lively seaside resort of Aberystwyth is one of the most popular towns in Cardigan Bay, and arguably the whole of Wales. The main North Beach is framed by a sweeping promenade, ideal for a sunset stroll and for admiring the murmuration of starlings in winter. Aberystwyth is perfect for a traditional family holiday by the sea, with amusements at the Victorian pleasure pier, and plenty of cafés for classic seaside treats like ice cream and fish and chips. Aberystwyth South Beach is slightly quieter and is popular with experienced surfers, and for spotting dolphins and porpoises.
